I have today received a letter from the Health Secretary as construction of Scunthorpe Hospital's new MRI Scanner gets underway. Technicians began working on the MRI in late January, and it is due to for completion on 15th October before being fully operational on 1st November.
This Scanner was supported by government funding, and so I am pleased that the Health Secretary is recognising the value of improving our local health infrastructure. This is a fantastic mid-term upgrade for the local Hospital, but the Health Secretary has also promised to work on securing long-term support for SGH. Indeed, I met with him last week to discuss long-term investment and am providing him with up-to-the-minute information on the condition of our hospital.
I will continue to push for long-term investment so that our health infrastructures matches the exemplary efforts of our local health workers. I also spent the summer pushing the Health Sec and Chancellor to grant a pay rise to NHS workers and will be keeping in touch with our local health team to ensure that this materialises.
