Funded by the £30+ million granted to Scunthorpe from the previous Government for town centre investment, the Urban Park at Church Square officially opened last weekend. I was there and seeing the smiles on the children’s faces as the water fountains came on was just brilliant! The £1 million project will provide a beautiful hub for our community, and a space which I hope will bring happy memories for years to come. The park is in particular proximity to UTC North Lincolnshire and the Business and Innovation Hub soon to be developed, but everyone visiting the area should stop and take a walk through its gardens!
Whilst in the area, I visited UTC Engineering's Discover Event. The confidence, courtesy and talent of our young people was on full display as they got to take part in a series of activities put on by local businesses and stakeholders. Whether it be meeting Annie Fanny (who will be starring in the pantomime at The Baths Hall this Christmas), taking part in the mini wind turbine challenge hosted by Lab Rascals or engaging in a spot of animal handling (something I thankfully avoiding!), the kids set a fantastic example for our area. The STEM Ambassadors at UTC were also impressive, representing their school with a smile as they guided people around. I have written to UTC's Principal to thank her for the event.
