I continue to use the Parliamentary mechanisms available to me to push the issues affecting our steel. For example, any future changes to the carbon emissions trading scheme must consider the impact on existing steel decarbonisation plans, and I asked the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy if they had considered this. Parliamentary Questions can also be used to find out the amount of UK steel used on big projects, and I have asked how much UK steel has been used on the Elizabeth Line in London.
As soon as the new Minister for Steel was appointed, I made sure to get in touch and let him know how important this is to our area. He’ll continue to hear from me a lot!
So I was delighted earlier this week, that he made it a priority to visit British Steel.
