A new scheme designed to improve housing standards and protect tenants in Scunthorpe has been proposed.

Following the absolutely fantastic news that Scunthorpe Sea Cadets have received over £100,000 in funding from the Youth Investment Fund, enabling them to support many more young people a year, I was delighted to visit the grand opening of the Sea Cadets’ new facility.

The first £2m of a ten-year £20m Government-funded cash pot is being invested to revamp community centres across Scunthorpe.

Following on from the meeting we had last year, I invited Stephen and Gill Ayling, whose son, Nathan, died of an undiagnosed heart condition, to London to meet with the new minister responsible for cardiac screening, Andrea Leadsom.

I recently visited Sentex Hydraulix, a family-run business here in Scunthorpe. Sentex Hydraulix is another company that has benefited from the Govt’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

In 2021, the Govt promised to open 75 Family Hubs across England. I’m delighted to say that’s now been delivered.

£300m has been spent to support family hubs and Start for Life services across the country, and North Lincs has been one of the counties to benefit.

Today is Holocaust Memorial Day, when we remember the 6 million Jewish people murdered in the Holocaust, and all other victims of the Nazis. I attended the memorial service here in Scunthorpe, along with an earlier service with my friend Andrew Percy MP in Brigg.

The waste fire at Foxhills Industrial Estate is still burning, and this needs to be sorted before it becomes a bigger problem for nearby businesses.
