Yesterday I asked the PM to reassure our area that he will not let the regrettable current situation be a ‘distraction’ from the government’s task to deliver on energy costs.
Just a bit of background, my push for a fair footing for our steel industry has been widely documented. I have spoken in debates and met with Ministers on numerous occasions to ensure that they understand what needs to be done to support our steel industry. I am unashamedly supportive of our steelmakers.
The high industrial energy prices are both a short and long term issue which need to be addressed and I want to ensure that this campaign continues to be heard.
His response was that the Chancellor will be announcing an energy costs support package not only for households, but also for industries - I will of course await for full details but I consider this a real step in the right direction.
