A new mental health partnership will free up an astounding 1 million hours for police across the UK.
This new partnership, announced last month, will mean that health professionals respond to mental health crises rather than police, to ensure that those experiencing a mental health crisis get the care they need.
Officers will instead be able to improve response times, be diverted to visible patrols or better investigations, and will only attend mental health crises if there is a crime or threat to safety.
Humberside Police have already trialled a similar approach, which has saved on average 1,441 hours a month!
This mutually beneficial partnership is important news for policing and for those experiencing mental health crises.
