Having written to a number of residents on this subject, I am pleased to have been able to sign letters to the Chancellor in support of a beer duty cut. You can see the letter below.
So far, the government has been a supporter of pubs, ending the beer duty ‘escalator’ that the last Labour government introduced and cutting or freezing alcohol duties at six of the last seven budgets. However, more must be done, and after restricting pubs from trading on-and-off for a year, we should certainly not cut landlords’ revenue as they try to recover. I think duty cuts is the best way of boosting these businesses and incentivising consumers.
