This evening, Steel MPs including myself, Andrew Percy and Martin Vickers met with the Prime Minister to discuss steel and the current global energy challenges which are affecting the sector across Europe and the world. I was travelling home to North Lincs when we heard the meeting was confirmed, so I turned around and drove straight back to London.
The Prime Minister really does understand our industry, within days of the election in 2019 he had spoken to me in depth about steel and you may remember how he intervened earlier in the year on the tarrifs.
As the granddaughter of a steelworker, I’ve grown up understanding how important steel is to our area and to the country. I’m proud that we make some of the best steel in the world in Scunthorpe and I will of course continue to work on issues that affect steel with colleagues and the government.
